Sheffield FC Support for Poppy Appeal 14/10/2008
Players from the World’s first football club, Sheffield FC will wear shirts embroidered with large poppies in the home UniBond League Division One South match against Glapwell on Saturday, 1st November.
The Club is then to auction all of the unique shirts worn for the game, to raise money for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.
"It will be an honour for myself and the rest of the squad to wear these shirts," commented Sheffield FC captain Steve Hawes. "The new shirts, embroidered with the poppies, will be completely unique and I hope the sale of them raises lots of money for such a worthy cause."
Sheffield FC director of football Dave McCarthy (pictured above) added: “I am delighted that the club is able to assist the appeal in the sale of these one off shirts and the bucket collection we will be holding inside the stadium during the Glapwell FC match.”
Poppy Appeal fundraiser Christine Selden said: “It`s fantastic that Sheffield FC is supporting the Poppy Appeal. The money raised will help The Royal British Legion continue to help ex-service people and their dependants, including those who have recently served in Afghanistan and Iraq. The auctioning of the shirts is a great way to raise vital funds for the Appeal.”
Anyone who wishes to bid for one of the Sheffield FC shirts, which will be numbered 1-17 and carry the Sheffield FC badge, UniBond League logos, as well as the clubs sponsor, `Football Superstars`, can do so either my emailing info@sheffieldfc.com and identifying what number shirt they would like to bid for (the minimum bid being £20.00), or by calling the club on 01246-292622. Alternatively, spectators at the game on 1st November can bid right up to the final whistle.
