 East Midlands Derby Backdrop to Gresley Event 09/10/2008
The fierce rivalry between Derby County and Nottingham Forest is being renewed on the pitch on Sunday 2nd November 2008 and Gresley Rovers is laying on a special night of entertainment for the following week. On Thursday 6th November three household names of East Midlands football will provide the entertainment at Branston Golf and Country Club.
Two of the three have very strong connections with Gresley Rovers. Former Derby County player, Roger Davies played and then went onto manage Rovers in the mid eighties, ex England and Forest striker Garry Birtles, was assistant manager when the Moatmen won the Southern League and then was appointed manager, whilst on the night Alan Birchenall will attempt to fly the flag for Leicester City.
The Board of Gresley Rovers have been looking to hold a corporate event like this for some time and the timing of the derby fixture and the legends availability was ideal. On the night a three course dinner will be served, there will be some fundraising for Gresley Rovers and the audience will steer the night when they come to question their former hero’s.
The Chairman of Gresley Rovers, Mark Harrison, who is also a Derby County fan, admitted he’s very much looking forward to the night. “The timing of the event is excellent as not only will there be plenty of banter up to the match itself but for weeks after the fixture regardless of the result.”
“We want to use the occasion to engage more with the business community and so I would urge any companies that are looking for a good evening out to get in touch.”
